ディック・スミス Dick Smith

「特殊メイクの神様」といわれるメイクアップ・アーティスト。 歯医者を目指していた19才のとき読んだ「ブック・オブ・メイクアップ」に影響され、メイクアップ用の材料を買い込み自らに施したのが始まり。メイクをするたびに友人を脅かして歩いていた。 1945年にＮＢＣの開局と同時にテレビ界初の常勤のメイクアップ・アーティストとして雇用され、当時生放送だったドラマの早変わりメイクを行った。 その後活躍の場を映画に移し、フォームラテックス製のマスクを小さなパーツに分割する手法「オーバーラップ・アプライエンス」を70年『小さな巨人』で使用、注目された。 73年、大ヒットした『エクソシスト』で悪魔に取り憑かれる少女リーガン（リンダ・ブレア）のメイクを担当。ディック・スミスの名前とともに特殊メイクアップという仕事が世の中に認知されることとなった。 67年のTV作品『Mark Twain Tonight』ではエミー賞を、84年『アマデウス』ではアカデミー賞最優秀メイクアップ賞を受賞している。 |
